The 5th United Nations Ocean Forum once again proved to be a unique platform for global dialogue, peer exchange, and consensus-building on trade-related aspects of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water).
Over 500 participants from 80 countries gathered over three days—representing ministers, ambassadors, UN entities, international organizations, the private sector, youth, and civil society—to explore the vital intersection of ocean trade, climate action, and sustainable development.
Key themes at the Forum included:
🌱 Decarbonizing ocean economies through climate action plans and national commitments (NDCs).
⚓ Strengthening ocean trade, maritime transport, and port infrastructure in support of inclusive development.
🐟 Promoting sustainable South-South trade in fisheries and aquaculture to drive value addition and economic diversification.
💡 Fostering innovation in marine-based and natural product sectors to tackle food security and ocean pollution.
💸 Mobilizing public and private investment for sustainable ocean sectors through a proposed New Blue Deal.
